In industrial processes such as calcium carbide furnaces, lime kilns, and waste incinerators, flue gases often contain hygroscopic and deliquescent dust particles like CaO and CaCl₂. These particles can adhere to the surface of filter bags, causing caking and clogging. To ensure efficient filtration and extend the lifespan of baghouse dust collectors, specific measures must be implemented. Below are some key strategies to address these challenges:
 
1.Selecting Low Hygroscopicity, Hydrolysis-Resistant Filter Media
 
Choosing filter media with low water absorption and high hydrolysis resistance is essential for environments with hygroscopic and deliquescent dust. This reduces the risk of filter bag degradation and enhances durability.
 
2.Controlling Flue Gas Temperature
 
Keeping the flue gas temperature above the dew point prevents condensation and dust adhesion. Proper insulation of the dust collector and pipelines, along with heating systems in critical areas like hoppers, minimizes moisture buildup.
 
3.Pre-Coating Filter Bags
 
Applying an inert, non-hygroscopic powder to the surface of filter bags creates a protective layer, preventing direct contact with dust and reducing the risk of caking.
 
4.Using Indirect Cooling for High-Humidity Flue Gas
 
For high-humidity flue gases, indirect cooling methods like natural or mechanical air cooling should be used. Avoiding direct contact between water mist and dust prevents stickiness and ensures easier removal.
 
5. Installing Hot Air Circulation Systems
 
For intermittent dust sources with high hygroscopicity, it is advisable to add hot air circulation and heating systems at the dust collector inlet. This ensures a stable temperature environment, reducing the risk of condensation and maintaining optimal dust collection performance.
 
6. Employing High-Temperature, Moisture-Free Pneumatic Conveying Systems
 
When using pneumatic systems for ash handling, a dry, high-temperature air source should be selected to prevent moisture from interacting with the dust. This improves the efficiency of ash transport and reduces operational challenges.
 
The handling of hygroscopic and deliquescent dust presents higher performance demands for baghouse dust collectors. However, by employing scientific material selection, temperature control, pre-coating protection, and well-designed systems, these challenges can be effectively addressed. These measures not only enhance the operational efficiency of baghouse dust collectors but also extend the service life of the equipment, reduce maintenance costs, and ensure long-term system stability.
